Admission to Courses conducted by NISH for the Academic Year 2016-17

NISH is an autonomous body under the Department of Social Justice, Government of Kerala which has been accredited as “excellent” institute by the Rehabilitation Council of India. NISH is a comprehensive multi-purpose institute focusing on the identification, rehabilitation, education of the individuals with communication disorders. Since its inception back in 1997, NISH has made significant contributions for improving the quality of life of individuals with communication disorders and has taken pioneering effort in implementing various programs for the disabled population. Located beside the serene lake side at Akkulam , NISH hosts a unique integrated campus which accommodates staff and students with communication disabilities.

The activities of NISH includes

  • Multi-disciplinary assessment and intervention for various communication disabilities including a team of audiologists, speech language pathologists, physiotherapists, psychologists, ENT surgeon and Neurologist.
  • Early intervention programs for young hearing impaired children.
  • Counselling and parent guidance.
  • Academic programs including degree courses for Hearing Impaired students and Professional rehabilitation course.
  • Camps and outreach program.
  • Research in the field of disability.
  • Seminars, workshops, CRE programs.
  • Bachelor of Audiology & Speech Language Pathology (BASLP)

    The Bachelor of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology is a graduate level course affiliated to the University of Kerala and recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). Its main aim is to generate skilled and efficient manpower to work effectively with persons having communication disorders. They have opportunities to work in hospitals, special schools, speech and hearing institutes, hearing instrument manufacturing industry, government and non-government agencies working for the disabled as well as to do independent practice. Excellent opportunities await abroad for higher studies and practice. Successful candidates will be awarded the Bachelor Degree by the University of Kerala.

    The admission for this course for the 2016-17 academic session started. Last date of application: June 15, 2016.

     

    Degree HI (BSc (CS) (HI), BFA (HI) & B.Com (HI))

    NISH is the first Institution in the country to propose new degree courses exclusively for students with hearing impairment. The courses are BSc (CS) (HI), BFA (HI) & B.Com (HI). The scheme and syllabus have been so designed that there is substantial practical content and less theory. The University of Kerala has given affiliation and would award degree to successful candidates. The program is innovative and is expected to fulfil the long felt dreams of students with hearing impairment for higher education.

    Diploma in Early Childhood Special Education (Hearing Impairment) (DECSE(HI))

    The Diploma in Early Childhood Special Education (Hearing Impairment),(DECSE(HI)) is a diploma course introduced by the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) from 2001. NISH has been approved as a recognised centre for the conduct of the course by RCI. The main aim of the course is to generate qualified professionals for the Early Intervention program. The Early Intervention program which is getting increased attention requires large number of qualified teachers. The successful candidates from the diploma course will be eligible to be appointed as teachers. RCI will provide the certificate of registration.

    Admission for this course for the 2016-17 academic session started. Last Date extended to: 17 June 2016
